ChapterSeven ~ Unexpected Favor

“Broken” may describe you now, or in the past, but “broken” does not need to define your tomorrow.

Read Ruth 2:1-7. Naomi’s husband had a wealthy relative named _____________, which means __________________________.

Biblical law established a plan by which even the most destitute in Israel could ________________________________________. (Leviticus 19:9-10; 23:22)

Ruth saw the necessity of ___________________________________________.

The servant told Boaz that she had asked to _________________ from their crops and had been working hard all day long.

Read Ruth 2:8-13.

Boaz encouraged Ruth to:
● Stay _______________________________________________________
● Stay _______________________________________________________
● Drink from __________________________________________________
And he instructed his young men _____________________________________.

Read Ruth 2:14-16. Boaz _________________ her.

Read Ruth 2:17-23.
● First, we see Ruth _______________________ in the fields until evening.
● Then she _____________________ what she had gleaned.
● She _______________ about an ephah of ______________.
● After beating her grain, she ___________________________.

When Naomi learned that is was Boaz who had helped Ruth, she knew __________________________________________________________________.

The Hebrew word for “one of our closest relatives” is ________________.

● The goel would avenge the _____________________________________.
● The goel could _______________________________________________.
● The goel could _________________________________ for family members that had been ______________________________________.
● If he was single or widowed, the goel could __________________________ when someone died without an heir.

Ruth worked in Boaz’s field until the end of the ____________________________.

● The beginning of the barley harvest season was ______________________.
● The barley harvest season ended in _______________, and then blended into the wheat harvest, which continued _____________________.

Read Ruth 3:1-4.

Naomi gave Ruth strict instructions on what to do. She was to:
1. _____________________________________________________________
2. _____________________________________________________________
3. _____________________________________________________________
4. _____________________________________________________________
5. _____________________________________________________________
6. _____________________________________________________________

Read Ruth 3:5-13.

Ruth’s response in verse 9: “So spread your covering over your maid, for you are a close relative.” She is offering ____________________________________.

He told her that he was aware of _____________________________ who was a ___________________________________.

Let’s see what happened. Read Ruth 3:14-18.

He ________________ Ruth early, gave her a __________________________, and _______________________________ just before dawn.

Read Ruth 4:1-6.

The unnamed relative ______________________ his right to become the goel in verse 6, and _____________________________ to Boaz.

A formal contract was then publicly sealed: the relative removed his _________________ and gave it to __________________.

Read Ruth 4:9-10.

By purchasing all of Naomi’s property and goods, Boaz is now obligated to __________________________ and _______________________, both in __________ and _________________. By acquiring ____________ as part of the deal, he could now ___________________ and give her the opportunity to ___________________________, the first of whom would then become the _______________________________________.

Read Ruth 4:11-12; then Ruth 4:13-17.

If we go back a chapter or two… _______________________________________.

The same Boaz… who is ______________________________________________.

Boaz and Ruth had a son, Obed, who is __________________________________.

The family line of _______________, and of ______________________, was preserved when ______________ married _____________________.

Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me.”
