90 Day Read Through the Bible – Day 29

May 31, 2018

Hello sweet friends,
Today’s Reading … Psalm 43-45, 49, 84-85, 87, 73, 77-78, and 1 Chronicles 3-6
The psalms that we have been reading allow us a glimpse into the heart and mind of David, a man after God’s own heart. While writing these psalms, David was experiencing intense persecution, even the threat of losing his life. As we have stated, one of the inspiring aspects of David’s journey is that while it was necessary for him to run from Saul, he never ran from God. David knew whom he could trust and he has not wavered  from that foundation as we can see in the following passages:

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?”
Psalm 56:3-4

 “As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people
    both now and forevermore.”
Psalm 125:2

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
Yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
I will consider all your works
and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
Psalm 77:11-12

David keeps his eyes locked steadily on God. He looks above his circumstances and into the heart of his Lord, resting in His ultimate faithfulness. We read that David repeatedly recalls God’s past faithfulness to His people and trusts that He will remain faithful. David knows that the character of God does not change. Circumstances change, relationships change, the character of God never changes.

David is not immune to feelings of fear, failure and sadness. He simply knows where to bring these emotions to process them. David cries out to God when he is hurting and asks God to show him truth. Our emotions, just like our circumstances, can deceive us and draw us away from God. When this happens, God calls to us,
“Stop running and return to me!”
We can bring our confusion, our fear, our pain to Him and He will share His perspective. He will remind us of His faithfulness, His perfect discernment and His unfailing love for us.

David was not perfect, and neither are we. But we share the same merciful and relational God who is always there to walk us through our darkest moments and our greatest victories. With our eyes locked steadily on Him, above our circumstances and emotions, we can rest in His truth today and always.

Love you all,
Kinsee
