09Hello Sweet friends,
Today’s Reading … Psalm 119, 72, 1 Kings 3-4, 2 Chronicles 1 and Song of Solomon 1-8
I love what the Bible Project says about the Song of Solomon:
“This poem highlights the power and intensity of love. It’s beautiful, consuming and dangerous. Like fire, it can destroy people if abused, but it can be life-giving if it is protected and nurtured. Ultimately, love expresses the insatiable human longing to know and be fully known by another. Love is one of the most transcendent and mysterious experiences in human life and, as part of the Bible’s wisdom tradition, this book says that it’s a gift from God.”
God made humans to be in relationship with Him. God made humans to be in relationship with one another. The problems arise when we get these two out of order. The insatiable longing to know and be known can only be completely met by God. When we attempt to have another human meet this need, or to meet this need in another human, we see the dangerous, heart breaking side of love. No human can love another human in a way that will fill the God sized hole in every heart. Only God can do that. However, when our needs for love are met by the One who created love, we are able to share that beautiful, supernatural, life-giving gift with the people around us.
Marriage is a gift from God. Love is a gift from God. Each of these gifts become burdens when they are not dependent, every moment, on the overflowing grace of the Holy Spirit in our lives. “We love because He first loved us.” We continue to love because he never stops loving us and loving the people in our lives through us.
Today my prayer is that our spouses, our families and anyone else whom the Lord brings to us will feel His mysterious, transcendent love through us.
By Your power, In Your Spirit, Lord, let us be your vessel of love today. Amen.
Love to you all,
Kinsee
