Hello sweet friends!
Today’s Reading … Psalm 131, 138-139, 143-145, 127, 111-118, 37, 71, 94, 1 Chronicles 26-29 and 1 Kings 1-2
Today’s reading is so rich! The transition of leadership from David to Solomon offers us an amazing amount of insight.
Reflections from David:
“Surely I have composed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned child rests against his mother,
My soul is like a weaned child within me.” Psalm 131:2
“”The Lord will accomplish what concerns me;
Your loving-kindness, O Lord, is everlasting;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” Psalm 138:8
“Let me hear of Your loving-kindness in the morning;
For I trust in You;
Show me the way I should walk;
For to you I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8
At the end of his life, David is enjoying the peace that comes only when we recognize God’s omnipotence in our lives. When we seek the Lord in all our decisions, and we know that His character never fails, there is peace that passes understanding which will guard our hearts and minds.
“One generation shall raise Your works to another,
And shall declare your mighty acts.” Psalm 145:4
“Now therefore…you are a wise man and you will know what you ought to do” 1 Kings 2:9
David has spent time teaching Solomon, the next generation, of the amazing attributes of God. Now, as he passes the
kingdom into his son’s hands, he has confidence in His God and also in Solomon’s understanding of the power of the Lord. Additionally, David speaks words of affirmation to Solomon. Telling him that he is a wise man and will know what he ought to do. When you look into the lives of the people you love, is it with eyes seeking strengths or weaknesses? Let us follow David’s example to seek to see the best qualities and encourage those in the people in our lives.
Reflections from Solomon:
“Unless the Lord build the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman keeps awake in vain.” Psalm 127:1
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.” Psalm 111:10
“Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desire of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
These three verses come together to paint a beautiful picture of living life in the center of God’s will. When we attempt to succeed at anything, apart from the direction and blessing of the Lord, our efforts are futile and success is momentary. With a holy fear of our holy God, we seek to please Him before ourselves and in that choice wisdom is found. As we
immerse ourselves in pleasing God, the desires of our hearts become what pleases God. This leads to an obedient Spirit that seeks Him above all else. With His calling on our lives, our efforts take on eternal significance and succeed in the eyes of God. The circle of these three verses is a powerful cycle that leads to a peaceful life in the Lord.
Love you all,
Kinsee
