Hello sweet friends,
Today’s Reading … Deuteronomy 8-20
As we mentioned yesterday, Deuteronomy is Moses farewell address to the new generation about to enter the Promised Land. In, “What the Bible is All About,” Dr. Mears breaks down the 4 major themes of Moses charge.
Deuteronomy 1-4: Moses Looks Back
Moses begins his address to the people by describing how he had led them these past 40 years. As God instructed him, he had delivered God’s people out of bondage in Egypt, guided them, trained them, gave them forms of laws and government, issued religious instructions and molded them into a nation.
Deuteronomy 5-26: Moses Looks Up
Moses now sets forth the Law simply and clearly so that it would take a living hold of the people. They are charged to separate themselves from evil, show charity towards others, gather together to worship and be disciplined.
Deuteronomy 27-33: Moses Looks Out
Moses gives the people some solemn warnings. He speaks of the blessings of obedience and the curses of disobedience. Over this entire portion of his message, Moses emphasizes the point that the Lord is with them. They can be strong in their God.
Deuteronomy 34: Moses Looks Down
After the final words of Blessing, Moses went up to the top of Mount Nebo and there God showed him the Promised Land. We know that he died there and that God buried him, no one knows where. We will read of Moses again in the Gospels.
Moses is certainly a Biblical hero, imperfect and yet loved and used by God. He inspires us to follow God’s call and trust His faithfulness. His story is a constant reminder of a faithful God who longs for each of us to claim His plans for our lives. He says to each of us, as He did to Moses, “Trust Me.”
Love you all,
Kinsee
