90 Day Read Through the Bible – Day 18

May 20, 2018

Hello Sweet Friends,
Today’s Reading … Numbers 35-36 and Deuteronomy 1-7

We have read through:

Genesis which tells the beginnings of the chosen nation, Israel.

Exodus which relates the organization of the people into a nation and the giving of the Law.

Leviticus which tells the way God’s chosen people were to worship God.

Numbers which gives the story of the wanderings of God’s people.

and now, Deuteronomy which will relate to us the final preparation for entering the Promised Land.

“Deuteronomy” derives its name from the Greek word, “deuteronomion” which means “second law” or “law repeated.”  This book is essentially Moses’ farewell address to a new generation.  He summons them to hear the Law of God, instructs them in the application of its principals to the new circumstances awaiting them and has them renew the covenant that God has made with their fathers.   Deuteronomy clearly shows the blessings of obedience and the curses of disobedience (What the Bible is all About).

During the first 4 chapters of Deuteronomy, Moses reflects on the journey of the Israelites. Throughout it all, the faithfulness of God is evident. “The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness.  These forty years your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything”(Deuteronomy 2:7). What a great reminder as the Israelites prepare to enter the Promised Land. God’s faithfulness propels them in their courage keep going into the unknown. Each step of the way God is reminding His people, “Trust Me.”

Love you all,

Kinsee

“so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return empty, but accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it”(Isaiah 55:11).
