Today’s Reading … Genesis 48-50 and Exodus 1-9
The Exodus is a beautiful Old Testament story of God coming to rescue his people from slavery in Egypt.
This book provides a glimpse of God’s ultimate plan to rescue all of His people from slavery to sin in the person of Jesus Christ.
The book of Genesis is a family history, this is a national history. Three and half decades have passed since the end of Genesis and a new dynasty is on the throne in Egypt. The Israelites have grown into a great nation during this time.
Genesis tells of humanity’s failure under every test and every condition; Exodus is the thrilling epic of God rushing to the rescue (What the Bible is All About).
In keeping with our theme,”Trust Me,” the entire story of Exodus rests on promises that God made to His people. There is the promise that the Lord made to Abraham four hundred years earlier – to take his descendants as His own and love them with an everlasting love (Genesis 12:1-3). It was because of this ancient promise to Abraham that God delivered the people of Moses. “God heard their groaning and he remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them”(Exodus 2:24-25). This has always been the way of the Lord. The grace he extends to you and me is not based on how He feels about us in any given moment. His faithfulness is anchored in ancient promises He made long before we were born. God doesn’t change. His steadfast love endures forever (Psalm 136:1).
He can be trusted. Forever.
