90 Day Read Through the Bible – Day 48

June 19, 2018

Hello Sweet friends,
Today’s Reading … Isaiah 5-12, Amos 1-9 and 2 Chronicles 27

In Amos, we find one of many instances in the Bible of God calling a man when he was in the middle of doing his daily job. Amos received his training straight from the hand of God.  Amos was the man for the job, he feared God and no one else. Amos was:

Humble – he didn’t hide where he came from

Wise – he didn’t preach over the heads of people

Fearless – he told the truth

Faithful – his message was always, “this is what the Lord says”
(This is What the Bible is About)

Wow! What an inspiration! We have seen God call David from his humble beginnings as a shepherd, we have seen Him call Moses from obscurity and we will eventually see Him call the disciples from their fishing boats. He is in the business of calling “ordinary people” for his extraordinary purposes. That means, He has an extraordinary calling and purpose for you and for me!

As a person who is easily overwhelmed and quick to say no, I love the simple break down of Amos and his obedience.
-He was humble and didn’t hide where he came from. Our stories are the background of who we are, let’s not hide that. Remember, God uses all the broken pieces to create a masterpiece that can touch someone else’s life. Be brave enough to be real.

-He was wise and didn’t speak over the people’s heads. When we are moving through our lives, let’s remember that we are only a vessel of the Lord. As such, we have nothing to prove and our only goal is to radiate the character of Christ. Let’s pray for wisdom to disengage from competitive conversations and instead, humbly share Christ’s love to everyone that we encounter.

-He was fearless and told the truth. It is so easy to put a little “spin” on reality to make those around us more comfortable. If we trust God enough to place our lives in His hands, let’s also trust Him enough to work in the hearts of those we encounter as He is, not as we think that others want Him to be.

-He was faithful and his message remained, “this is what the Lord says.” That is a pretty simple and clear guideline.  If our speech is always pointing back to Scripture, then we are always pointing back to Jesus. This is our purpose and our priority.

With the example of Amos in front of us, I pray that each of us would be emboldened to accept when the Lord calls us from our daily activities to serve Him and His purposes. “He who calls you is faithful and He will do it”
(1 Thessalonians 5:24).

Love you all,
Kinsee
