Hello Sweet friends,
Today’s Reading … Psalm 26, 40, 58, 61-62, 64, 5, 38, 41-42, 57, 2 Samuel 19-23
When we experience God, it changes us. Every time. David experienced the grace of God in a moment of brokenness after his affair with Bathsheba, the murder of Uriah and the death of his child. David already knew the Lord and walked closely with Him. However, this time of pain allowed him to know God on a more intimate level.
“Examine me, O Lord, and try me;
Test my mind and heart.” Psalm 26:2
David understands, in a new way, his susceptibility to sin and prays for the Lord’s wisdom in his weakness.
“He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon the rock making my footsteps firm.” Psalm 40:2
David keeps God’s grace in his life forefront in His mind. His gratitude is ever present.
“In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice;
In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.” Psalm 5:3
David commits to begin each new day surrendered to the Lord and His plans. He has experienced the pain from going his own way, and is now dependent on the leading of God in his life.
“As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So my soul pants for You, O God.” Psalm 42:1
David has realized that when he seeks to find fulfillment in this life, it leads to death. He now looks only to God for his purpose and peace.
And my favorite…
“The king said to Shimei, ‘You shall not die.’ Thus the king swore to him.” 2 Samuel 19:23
This is an echo of God’s grace to David in 2 Samuel 12:13, “The Lord has taken away your sin; you shall not die.”
David had experienced forgiveness from God and here he is extending that forgiveness to Shimei. Beautiful.
When we make a choice to stop running and return to God, we are allowed to experience Him in a deeper, more intimate way. This has the potential to change how we live going forward. I pray that we will just accept forgiveness and not miss the rich blessing of living out our forgiveness. May we be changed by God’s forgiveness. May be be wiser, more dependent on God and more gracious to those in our lives.
Love you all,
Kinsee
