Hello Sweet Friends,
Today’s Reading … Numbers 7-15 and Psalm 90
There is so much covered in today’s reading. In the chapters, from Numbers, we see:
1. God’s provision – God provided for the Israelites every need in the desert; food, water, clothing and direction. He is still providing for us today. God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
2. The People’s Sin – The people murmured and complained against God. Aaron and Miriam sinned in their jealousy of Moses. We are all guilty of grumbling, complaining and jealousy.
3. God’s Promises – Both for the Israelites and for us all:
Ark of the Covenant, the Word of God in our midst
Sound of the Silver Trumpet, sound of a faithful prophet
Pillar of Cloud and Fire, comfort and guidance of the Holy Spirit
The Tabernacle and its ordinances, worship of God in His Sanctuary
The High Priest, Christ – who gives signifigance to it all
(taken from, “What the Bible is All About)
In a commentary from Matthew Henry, he discusses the meaning of Psalm 90:
“It is supposed that this Psalm was penned upon occasion of the sentence passed upon Israel in the wilderness for their unbelief, murmuring and rebellion, that their carcases should fall in the wilderness, that they should be wasted away by a series of miseries for thirty-eight years together, and that none of them that were then of age should enter Canaan.” He continues to explain that, in this prayer, Moses:
1. Comforts himself and his people with the eternity of God and their interest in him(v. 1,2).
2. Humbles himself and his people with the consideration of the frailty of man(v. 3-6).
3. Submits himself and his people to the righteous sentence of God passed upon them(v. 7-11).
4. Commits himself and his people to God by prayer for divine mercy and grace, and the return of God’s favor(v. 12-17).
As we humbly admit our endless similarities to the wandering Israelites, may we submit to a gracious God who is faithful to all of His promises. May we learn to respond daily to His call, “Trust Me.”
Love you all,
Kinsee
