Today’s Reading … Leviticus 5-15
How are you holding up here in the throws of Leviticus and ALL of the laws?? Allow me to offer a little insight in an effort to encourage so that we might see God’s face in His laws. His purpose in this pursuit of His children and the continual cry to, “Trust Me” that echoes through it all.
The book of Leviticus describes the laws of service that were of special importance to the tribe of Levi.
5 “Get Right” Offerings:
- Burnt offering – symbolizes Christ death for us/a daily offering
- Grain offering – symbolizes Christ in life/a daily offering
- Fellowship offering – fellowship and communion with God
- Sin offering – acknowledgement of sin, Christ on the cross
- Guilt offering – cleanses the conscience/mercy
10 “Keep Right Feasts”:
- Sabbath – a day of worship and rest/every seventh day
- Passover – celebrates redemption/lasts seven days
- Unleavened bread – celebrated with the Passover
- First fruits – symbolizes Christ resurrection and ours/50 days after Passover
- Weeks(or Pentecost) – birthplace of the church i the New Testament/50 days after First fruits
- Trumpets – points forward to the future gathering of the dispersed people
- Day of Atonement – sins of the nation confessed, only time the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies, the day Jehovah’s relationship to His people was established
- Tabernacles – signified the time the Israelites lived in tents in the wilderness/a reminder of the consequences of sin and the compassion and faithfulness of God
- Sabbath Year – a year of meditation and devotion/every seven years
- Year of the Jubilee – all Israelite slaves freed, all land restored to original owner/every 50 years
Highlighted in this book are the seriousness of sin in God’s sight, the necessity of atonement for sin, the holiness of God and the necessity of a mediator between God and man. In Genesis, we see humanity ruined; in Exodus, humanity redeemed; in Leviticus, humanity worshiping (Taken from “What the Bible is All About).
